Deputy Mattie McGrath asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if funding under the domestic well grant scheme can be awarded retrospectively in cases where homeowners were required to undertake emergency works to restore their water supply and could not reasonably wait for grant approval before commencing the works; if such applicants can reclaim all or part of the costs incurred; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the terms of the Private Well Grant Scheme, grant assistance is available only where an application has been approved by the relevant local authority before eligible works commence. Accordingly, grant assistance is not available where works have commenced before approval has been granted by the relevant local authority.
